Music video (and it does become a music video... hang in there) features "Low Lonesome" by Duke Levine. I'd never heard of the song or artist, but it started showing up randomly on the Pandora stations I'd listen to while playing. The feelings this song inspired in me caused me to think about taking a break.
I've decided to take at least 2 full months off from GoldenEye, and that also includes Perfect Dark, lest it become a surrogate. My last session was May 13th, meaning that by my calculations the first day I can play again is July 14th. Not a guarantee that I'll play again on that day or ever... but I imagine I'll want to return as soon as possible once my self-imposed restrictions are gone. Though I think my self-discipline will be more than enough, I've actually moved my GE/PD cartridges out of my house to a storage unit I have nearby. I like symbolic absoluteness of it.
I'm still in the community. I can still play video games, stream, and even speedrun. It's just the drive to gain points on the ranks that I need to step back from. Just for a little while.
Most of the video is all about me, but my favorite part of making it was going back to find the memories of other people's times. Of course within less than a day of posting this, we got Irie making top 3, Banz Cavs SA 1:11, and Calle Dam 52. Which means (1) I was a little too early with this to put in Calle's Dam 52 reaction, and (2) with all the breaking news that day, basically no one will ever know I made this video, lol.
I don't want to make a habit of making everything about my dogs (Opie and Spencer), but with the timing of this, I can't help but shout them out one last time. As explained when I got Runway SA 22, Spencer's noble final days in April 2021 inspired me to pursue a world record. Slightly more than a year later, the day I post this (May 16th, 2022), due to Opie's declining health, is the day we have decided to say goodbye to him as well. I am so grateful for the joy they have given my family over the past 17+ years.
I am so grateful for this community and the joy it has given me over the last 2 years.
