The white get closer--it's an Apothecary I think. It is too late. We both know that. His face looms into mine...he is saying something. I can barely make it out. He then shouts in my ears I think...'cause almost clear, yet distant.
"We have no time, Sargent," he says. "Must have your answer. I've spoken to the Captain, he is in agreement--all are. You're worthy of this honor."
And I know what he's talking about immediately. He babbles on. But I only make out one word--Internment.
Holy Emperor. So great a gift.
He mouths words at me slowly--I know he is bellowing. "Will you accept the honor? I must have your agreement."
And I muster one word. Spitting blood out of my mouth like a fountain to get it done.
".....yes."
I tried to nod. I think I did. But it's cold and it's dark. And I'm unsure.
