As the laryngotracheal diverticulum elongates, tracheoesophageal folds form in the laryngotracheal diverticulum
The tracheoesophageal folds grow toward each other and fuse
This fusion forms the tracheoesophageal septum

The septum divides the cranial portion of the foregut into a dorsal and ventral part
Dorsal= premordium of the oropharynx and esophagus –alimentary
Ventral=laryngotracheal tube
